1 day Payong Trek in Nong Khiaw

An adventure combination trail in northern Laos, Trekking & Adventure hike, Payong Trail into the Nam Ou valley, from/to Nong Khiaw

This trek incorporates the most interesting highlights of the Nong Khiaw and Nam Ou region. Highlights are trails along great landscape with great views and village visits. In the afternoon the tour brings you to back to the Nam Ou and a boat ride on the Nam Ou river will enclose the package riding back to Nong Khiaw.

Exploring nature, Lao culture s , villages, mountain trails & waterfall in Nong Khiaw , Laos

After a short car ride we start walking small paths following little streams and sneaking between high rising mountains. Colorful rice fields and gardens guide our way through this amazing scenery. The first stretch of this tour will lead us to a perfectly preserved Lao style village, still living in traditional style. You will see traditional houses farmland and jungle covered hills along the way. After an introduction to the local traditions, the Lao lowland style of weaving and other activities, you enjoy the surrounding while having lunch in a villagers house or garden…

The next part of the hike will follow a small road and soon will enter thick jungle ... A trail which was used for trading in the last decades becomes our guide… We follow the landscape on this smooth walk until we arrive in the next village where highland people, Hmong and Khamu are sharing their life. Have a warm welcome by the villagers and learn more about their unique tradition and history. A walk around the village can tell you many stories and shows you the difference between both ethnic groups.

In the afternoon we walk down to the Nam Ou river. Now we follow a downhill trail covered with forest and bamboo leading back to the river. We cross the Nam Ou and take a hike to a refreshing waterfall where we can take a shower or a swim…. Along the way we serve a Lao style lunch before we head back to Nong Khiaw by boat. Enjoy the sceneries!!

What to bring:
Bring your adventure gear including trekking shoes, sneakers, swimsuit, towel and sun protection. You will follow covered trails, little streams and open land. We provide water, lunch.
