MEKONG RIVER CRUISE ROUTE:
LUANG PRABANG - PAK OU - KUANG SI - THA DEUA
- LUANG PRABANG
Take the opportunity to explore the beauty of the Mekong region around Luang Prabang during four days on our cruise ships: the Mekong Sun or the Mekong Explorer. These vessels, owned by a German-Laotian company, welcome guests aboard since 2007 and offer luxurious air conditioned cabins and excellent food. Exceptional views, village visits and sightseeing are some of the highlights of this Laos Mekong cruise. You will stay overnight aboard our vessels. Come to visit us on one of the most exciting rivers in Asia!
LUANG PRABANG - PAK OU (-/-/D)
Day
1: You will embark either on the Mekong Sun or the Mekong Explorer
in the afternoon. (Check in at 2 p.m.) Make yourself comfortable in your cozy cabin.
Your cruise will start today with the departure from Luang Prabang, direction north.
On the way, you will make a break in a Laotian village, where you will have the
opportunity to observe how the traditional local liqueur Lao-Lao is being distilled.
After a short walk through the jungle, you will explore the famous Pak Ou-caves,
with thousands of small Buddha statues inside the caves. Our boat will stop on a
secluded river or sandbank for the night. Enjoy the spacious decks, lounge on board
and attend our welcome reception and dinner this evening. A selection of Asian
and European food will be provided throughout the cruise.
KUANG
SI WATERFALLS - THA DEUA (B/L/D)
Day
2: After a few hours of cruising down the river, you will stop and continue by bus
to visit the famous Kuang Si-waterfalls, followed by a visit to the elephant camp,
where you will see these giants in action. The ship will then head further south
to the Mekong ferry crossing at Tha Deua, connecting Luang Prabang Province with
the Sayaboury province.
WILD NATURE ALONG THE MAJESTIC MEKONG (B/L/D):
Day
3: Further south, you will discover some of the most remarkable and most impressive
landscapes of this untamed river. You will see hills covered with tropical vegetation,
awe-inspiring rock formations along the river banks, and a fascinating array of
fast currents and slower river parts. The power of the mighty Mekong will give your
cruise the feeling of a real expedition. Enjoy the beautiful views and watch nature's
wonders along the shores before you head north again and stop at a sandbank for
the night. This last evening on board will be celebrated with a farewell dinner.
(Due to sudden drops in water level on some days, it may be necessary to make the
afternoon excursion down south and upstream again in a local Lao slow-boat before
returning back to the Mekong Sun. This area is probably the wildest and most exciting
part of the Mekong.)
THA
DEUA AND BACK TO LUANG PRABANG (B/L/-)
Day
4: After breakfast on board, enjoy the beautiful view and spot local fishermen onshore.
The boat will cruise upstream from the ferry crossing at Tha Deua. You will return
to Luang Prabang in the afternoon, where you'll have to say goodbye to your Laotian
crew. After all these great impressions and incredible moments, we wish you a pleasant
stay in Luang Prabang.
Extension nights in Luang Prabang on the hotel-boat
Mekong
Sun or Mekong Explorer can be reserved.
NOTE:
Every river cruise on the upper Mekong is a pioneering experience and
is subject to constant changes in river conditions, such as flood and shallow waters.
Small deviations in the tour program are sometimes necessary, depending on weather,
local authorities and river and/or road conditions.
